New Roots is continuously expanding with new growers joining the ranks of the 147 gardening families and 41 farmers currently participating in the program, not to mention the addition of new garden plots, more land under production, and ongoing infrastructure projects across farm and garden sites.

Our needs fluctuate in tandem with the agricultural season, but the most impactful channels of support remain the same year- round.

Volunteer

We offer a variety of individual and group volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Group volunteer opportunities include farm & garden infrastructure builds, kids activities at Sunnyvale Farmers Market, clean-up of garden sites, and pre- and post-season cleanup at the farm sites. Individual volunteer opportunities include exchanging labor for a full share as a Workshare volunteer, assisting a farmer with weeding their plot, or working at a New Roots Farmers Market.

Shop

Put money directly into New Roots farmer pockets by signing up for the CSA, purchasing produce from New Roots farmers markets, and grocery shopping or eating at one of the retail locations that source fresh vegetables from program participants. If you are a chef or business owner interested in sourcing local produce from New Roots, please contact Sara Hockett (Sara.Hockett@Rescue.org).

Donate

Every dollar makes an impact. You can make a donation online using a credit card. The IRC SLC website does not provide a space during the online donation process to note the intention for the donation. Once you receive the emailed donation receipt, it can be forwarded to Jesse.Sheets@Rescue.org with a note about the intentions for the gift (e.g. if you'd like the money to support New Roots programming). You can also choose the direction of your dollar by selecting an item from our Amazon Wishlist or contributing to the CSA family fund, which connects new arrivals to the US with weekly produce boxes.
